Hammondville
Church of God 7th Day
Our History
From written recollections of some of its earliest members, the church in Northeast Alabama began between 1925 and 1927 when Elder W.W. McMicken came to the Sand Mountain community of Central, near the town of Henagar, to hold a “brush arbor” revival. Several families in the area became interested in the Church of God (Seventh Day) message and decided to construct a church. The first church built was called the Mt. Pisgah Church. In 1959, the Mt. Pisgah church was sold and the proceeds were used to construct the current church at Hammondville, Alabama. The Hammondville church building began as a one room structure with a dirt floor, but was improved and expanded over the years to accommodate the growing congregation. Some of the current members of the congregation are descendants of the founding and earliest church members.
What we believe
We understand that we are saved by the atoning work of our Lord Jesus Christ alone. We observe the 7th day Sabbath and the 10 Commandments as a sign of our trust, love and obedience in God. We are a family oriented church but trust everyone has a place with us. We believe in being involved in local and international missions work as a part of our Christian character. Through God’s love we extend care and mercy in our community and wherever it is needed.
Our Pastor
Pastor Wayne Hrenyk was born and raised in Canada. He felt the call to Ministry at the young age of 5 years. He is the grandson of John Kiesz a minister who served for over 60 years as well. The road to reaching his goal had detours and road blocks but finally he began by attending Canadian Bible College. After this he met the Love of his life Zahida who moved to Canada from El Salvador, Central America. He continued his education with moving to Denver in 1995 and attended Summit School of Theology graduating in 1998. Wayne & Zahida served their first Pastorate in Alfred North Dakota for 5 years. While in North Dakota, they were blessed with 3 children: Isaiah, Josiah, and Rebekah. God’s leading directed them to move south to the Alamo city, San Antonio, Texas. There they served the Triple Tree Church of God for 12 years. In the fall of 2015 they felt the call again from God and moved to beautiful Alabama. The Hrenyks have enjoyed the change and the Southern way of life. They hope to be used by God and bring growth and new challenges to the Hammondville Church with God’s Grace!
